EARL ``THE ROOTSMAN`` CHIN

Earl ‘Roots Man’ Chin is America’s leading reggae deejay and veejay. For over three decades, his legendary television show “Rockers” was uninterruptedly on the air, broadcasting out of New York City to millions of music fans in the Tri-State area. It was the first reggae music television series – and the most authentic one. Its dynamic mix of live performances, interviews and Caribbean lifestyle coverage made it a Friday night must for legions of TV watchers. The series not only focused on reggae music, but explored a myriad of cultural segments about Jamaica, and the rising influence it had on the rest of the world.

After Bob Marley himself told Earl to bring reggae to American television, Earl was the first media personality to bring Bob to a mass television audience in the late 1970s. He also did the same for such a galaxy of stars, including Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Bunny Wailer, Toots and the Maytals, Third World, Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, Sean Paul, Steel Pulse, Gregory Isaacs, Ken Boothe, Yellowman, Ziggy Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Shabba Ranks, Shaggy, Beenie Man, Culture, Marcia Griffiths, Luciano, Beres Hammond, Augustus Pablo, Capleton, Mutabaruka, Buju Banton, Black Uhuru, John Holt, Jacob Miller, The Mighty Diamonds, The Skatalites, Barrington Levy, Rita Marley, Morgan Heritage, and many others.

He has interviewed hundreds of music, movie and sports stars on the show and additionally has been a highly respected in-studio music producer working with Max Romeo, Bobby Keys and Keith Richards. Mr Chin owns by far the most expansive archive of reggae TV in the world – a rich and unequalled video library of hundreds of reggae-soaked hours, ranging from Bob Marley to Mick Jagger, from Dennis Brown to Sting. He maintains close relationships with the global reggae community, from White Plains Road to Ghana, from Brooklyn to Beverly Hills…Earl has been America’s (and Jamaica’s) continuous host in the world of reggae and has brought about the creation of a highly valuable and encyclopedic video archive of reggae music.

“This is Rockers TV. We originate, we never duplicate!” – Earl ‘Roots Man’ Chin
